Steff & Jose | Albany NY | Backyard Elopement | Chelsea Bos Photography

Okay, follow me on this adventure if you will.

Imagine watching one of your favorite shows and getting invested in the characters and their lives, think…. Jim and Pam from the office, Leslie and Ben from Parks and Rec, Jess and Nick from New Girl… you get it.

Now imagine you stop watching before you ever find out what happens to them and don’t tune in until much, much later.

That’s essentially what happened with me and Steff.

Steff might as well be a character on my favorite tv show.  She’s so much larger than life.  She wears her emotions on her sleeve and her feelings run deep and flow easily.  She’s energetic and bubbly and makes the silliest faces.  She and I met years and years and years ago and were buddies for awhile.  She was emotionally charged on the heels of a fresh and painful break up.  She cried often and ached for that piece of her life.  She feared that relationship was as good as it would get.  Then she jetted off to the Philippines and several other adventures and I didn’t see her for years.

So right now you’d be at a place where you just watched episode 1 of New Girl to see a crying and emotional Jess worried she’d never love again.  You saw Jim confess his love to Pam and watch her reject him. And then you turned off the TV and that story line remains that way in your brain.

So Steff calls me to ask if I would shoot her elopement with Jose and it was like turning your show back on seasons later to see a VARIETY of character development and a new plot line.  You’re re-invested.  How did we get here? Oh gosh, I’m so happy for my favorite character on this show.

That’s what it was like to watch Steff and Jose say I do. Seeing her again after all these years, she still wears her emotions on her sleeve, she still makes the silliest faces, she still electrifies the “screen” in a way you just want to watch and see what happens.  Seeing her so happy, so free, so secure, and remembering probably the last time I saw her was sitting on her couch and she sobbed “I’m worried I’ll never love again”.  HA.  Did God show her.  Jose is clearly beyond her wildest dreams.  It’s OBVIOUS they are absolutely perfect for each other.

Steff said something during her vows that choked me up and made me want to run home to my husband and squeeze him tight. She said something along the lines of I’ve always prided myself on being independent and not “NEEEDING” Jose.  But in her vows she looked at him square in the eye with tears flowing down her face and said “But I do need you, I need you in my life”.

And just like that, I’m re-invested in one of my favorite TV shows.  Let me help catch you up soon where these characters are with photos. 😉
